As a Chinese Language Teacher, your role will be to facilitate students in acquiring a foundational to advanced understanding of the Chinese language Mandarin including speaking, reading, and writing skills. You will design engaging lessons, assess progress, and provide individualized instruction to meet diverse learning needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lesson Planning and Delivery:

Prepare and deliver engaging lessons that adhere to the curriculum.

Develop a range of instructional materials, including audio, visual, and interactive resources, to enhance learning.

Teach Chinese grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and cultural nuances.

Use both traditional and digital teaching methods, including multimedia tools and online platforms.

Student Assessment:

Conduct regular assessments and quizzes to monitor student progress.

Provide constructive feedback and support to students in their language development.

Prepare students for exams such as HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) if applicable.

Classroom Management:

Manage classroom dynamics and maintain a positive learning environment.

Address individual learning needs through differentiated instruction and support.

Cultural Education:

Incorporate Chinese culture and history into language lessons to enrich students’ understanding.

Organize cultural activities, workshops, and events (e.g., Chinese New Year celebrations, calligraphy workshops).

Professional Development:

Stay updated on teaching best practices and integrate new language teaching methodologies.

Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development sessions.

Communication:

Maintain open communication with students, parents, and other staff regarding student progress and classroom activities.

Provide regular progress reports and feedback to students and parents.

Qualifications and Skills:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chinese Language, Education, or a related field.

Certification: Teaching certification, such as a Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL) certificate, is preferred.

Language Proficiency: Native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin (or Cantonese, if applicable). Fluency in English or another language is a plus.

Teaching Experience: Prior experience in teaching Chinese at various levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) is preferred.

Cultural Competence: Strong understanding of Chinese culture and the ability to teach it alongside the language.

REQUIREMENT

Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese Language, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.

Advanced degrees (e.g., Master’s in Chinese Language Teaching, Education, or similar) are often preferred.

Teaching Certification (preferred):

Certificate in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL).

Certification in Mandarin teaching (e.g., HSK Teacher Certificate).

State or national teaching license, if teaching in a formal school setting.Experience Requirement

Prior experience in teaching Chinese, especially to non-native speakers, is often required (1-3 years minimum).

Experience with different age groups (children, teens, or adults) and teaching in diverse settings (schools, online platforms, or private tutoring).

Native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin (or Cantonese, if applicable).

Strong command of written Chinese, including simplified and/or traditional characters depending on the curriculum.

Fluency in English or another language to facilitate communication with students, especially beginners.

Familiarity with best practices for teaching languages, including language immersion, grammar instruction, and use of multimedia tools.

Ability to develop and implement engaging lesson plans.

Strong understanding of Chinese culture, history, and traditions to integrate cultural components into language teaching.

Ability to organize and lead cultural activities to complement language lessons.

Experience using educational technology, such as:

Online teaching platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams).

Digital language resources (e.g., language learning apps, multimedia resources).

Interactive whiteboards, learning management systems (LMS), and virtual learning tools.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to engage students, motivate them, and adapt teaching styles to meet their needs.

Effective classroom management skills to maintain a positive and structured learning environment.
