The Canadian International School of Phnom Penh (CIS) is an accredited school that opened its doors on August 6, 2012 as a preschool and currently offers programming for students from nursery (18 months) to grade 8 for the 2017-2018 school year. We will continue to add grades until we celebrate our first graduating class. CIS uses a Canadian curriculum from the province of Alberta. The Alberta curriculum is recognized throughout the world and students graduating with a diploma from an Alberta accredited international school have received acceptances from over 200 universities worldwide.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The roles of teacher assistants: 


* Teacher Assistants will be engaged in a wide range of tasks, which can be categorized and detailed as follows: 


  • Assist the teacher in the development of daily lesson planning through direction only.
  • Keep confidential any negative, personal opinions related to the school, resources, or individual students, with parents or elsewhere.
  • Practice such discipline as may be exercised by a kind, firm and judicious parent in his or her family and apply to the teacher for advice and direction at all times.
  • Aid in keeping the classroom in proper order and ready for learning.
  • Be punctual and reliable at all times.
  • Attend all staff meetings called by the principal.
  • Maintain regular supervision of students inside and outside at all times and during assigned duty time.
  • In case of illness, report to the principal before 6:30 a.m. on the day of illness.
  • Perform any other duties assigned or delegated by the principal or his/her designate. 
  • Obtain written permission for any release of information to the students, parents, or general public. Respect reporting and communication channels by reporting directly to immediate supervisor.
  • Attend at the school lobby to greet and dismiss students each day as directed by the teacher.
  • Support for teachers:

  • Escorting groups of students to different work areas.
  • Assist teachers with general supervision and welfare on and off the school premises;
  • Preparing learning resources.
  • Photocopying and arranging for supplies to be ordered

  • Support for the curriculum: 
  • Helping students understand instructions, through repetition, rephrasing and modeling.
  • Undertaking small group support work.
  • Assisting students with developing their learning.
  • Selecting, preparing and maintaining learning equipment and resources.


Support for the school, by:

  • Helping implement our policies, such as those on child protection, and on health and safety.
  • Participating in training, in order to keep up to date with current school issues.
  • Contributing to discussions of students' progress in their Individual Educations Plans
  • Assisting with the supervision of students outside lesson times, i.e. in the playground, or in the school grounds generally.


Management of Teacher Assistants


  • Day to day support in the classroom will be directed by the teacher.
  • When appropriate, teacher Assistants will attend year group and staff meetings. 
  • Teacher Assistants may have a timetable for their tasks given to them by their teacher. 



REQUIREMENT

  • Bachelor Degree of English with children or another appropriate related field. 
  • A minimum of 1 year experience 
  • Like working with kids, be patient and creative with fun
  • Good Teamwork and communication skill in English and Khmer.
  • Good planning and organizing skills
  • Sensitivity and patience are key assets
